Terraria is light on resources (1-2 GB of RAM for 8 players) but tModLoader support is critical for modded servers. Pick based on version: 1.4 vanilla, journey mode, or tModLoader for Calamity/Thorium. World backups are essential as boss fights can corrupt the state. Serious hosts: permission management, TShock plugins and one-click restore.
Multiplayer games are mostly single-thread - favour a high CPU clock (4 GHz+) over a high core count. RAM depends on the game: 2-4 GB for 10 Minecraft players, 8-16 GB for 50 Rust players.
