Why does a listing show two different ratings?
The RackList Score runs from 0 to 100 and sums up five axes computed by the platform: the reviews received, how long the listing has been here, how complete and checked its legal information is, how quickly the host replies to reviews, and the breadth of its catalogue along with how openly it discloses prices. The star rating runs from 0 to 5 and comes only from the reviews users posted. A listing can therefore show 4.8 out of 5 on three reviews and still hold a modest score, for lack of track record or checked information.
How do I know whether a review has been verified?
Every review carries one of three labels. "Verified purchase" means the author supplied a proof of purchase that our team checked. "Invited" means the author was invited to review through the platform, without the host choosing who to invite, and the purchase is not proven. "Unverified" means the review was posted spontaneously, which is the most common case today. Reviews are published without prior approval, run through automated fraud detection, and can be moderated or removed afterwards, in particular once reported.
Can a host pay for a better ranking?
No. What money buys is visibility in identified places, marked "Sponsored" everywhere they appear, and management tools. The RackList Score and a listing's place in the directory never depend on it. A host that pays nothing ranks exactly where a paying host of equal quality ranks.
Why are hosts listed here that never signed up?
Some listings are created by the team from public information, so the directory is useful before hosts take it over. As long as a listing is unclaimed, the information it carries does not come from the host and nobody answers the reviews posted on it. Claiming it is free and is proven through control of the domain.
Why do some listings show no availability measurement?
Because measurements only start when the host asks for them. Being in a directory is not a request to be probed: until the host switches measurements on for its listing, the probe network does not query it. A listing without measurements is therefore not a sign of a service that is down, only of a host that has not opened that door yet.
